Description
The Pulley is the fourth of eight Spiritual Songs by Kenneth Jennings. All eight are published separately. The text is written by George Herbert (1593-1633) who wrote devotional poetry throughout his life. Herbert used simple and common words, conversational speech rhythms, musical imagery, and witty, unexpected metaphors. In the 18th century, Methodists and Moravians adapted a number of the poems as hymns, several of which remain today in hymnals of many denominations.
The eight pieces in the series are: S-133a – Discipline, S-133b – Love, S-133c – Prayer, S-133d – The Pulley, S-133e – Virtue, S-133f – Praise, S-133g Antiphon, and S-133h The Call.
