Description
Lorca’s Poema de la Siguiriya Gitana (Poem of the Gypsy Siguiriya) comes from a larger work entitled Poema del Cante Jondo (1921), a collection of poems inspired by the ancient flamenco tradition of cante jondo (deep song) from the region of Andalucia in southern Spain. Lorca explores some of the tradition’s fundamental elements, such as the plaintive sounds of the guitar and the cries of the singer (“El Grito”).
Dos Poemas (S-107 Despues de Pasar and S-108 El Grito) is Cavallaro’s personal interpretation of two of the poems in a contemporary setting.
