Peribahasa, or Proverbs in Malay, is a medley of three Malay folksongs: Enjit-Enjit Semut, Kopi Susu, and
Ikan Kekek, arranged by Filipino conductor and composer Eudenice Palaruan. Enjit-Enjit Semut is a children’s
game song, alluding to a ‘pinching’ game, whereas Kopi Susu is a song of advice to youths in love.
Like Kopi Susu, Ikan Kekek is another song of advise and wisdom for youths. The song admonishes young
people to be steady and safe, to not interfere with other’s affairs, and to take care of oneself and be
wholesome. It is composed in pantan.
