Description
Commissioned by the sixth world choral symposium and premiered by the dale warland singers in August, 2002, this work features minimalist elements, some argentinian tango influences, and eurhythmic movement. The piece is written using a fragment of Psalm 32 of the Vulgate version of the Bible. The musical style combines the Gregorian recitative with a contemporary musical language that incorporates a variety of rhythmic and harmonic elements which give strength and color to this work.
A new compositional technique explored by Grau in this piece is the use of the liquid consonants l, m, and n as syllables with their own notated rhythmic duration which produces interesting layers of color in the voices.
