Description
Scored for 8-part mixed choir, Song for a Young Country draws on two sources for texts: a short traditional Maori text about Kupe, who "cut up the land," and the poetry of Robin Hyde (1906-1939) which is used here with the kind permission of her literary executor Derek Challis. Hyde's text seems to speak directly to a "young country", noting present circumstances and looking forward to "building strong bridges and stairs."
