This piece is taken from the Book of Psalms 22: 16-20, 2 (Matthew 27:46 and Mark 15:34).
Jonathan Pieslak writes: ” As a Roman Catholic, I have often felt some conflict with the church’s attitudes towards women. My intention in setting this text for women’s chorus is to challenge the idea that gender is somehow tied to a divine message. I want to convey that the divine is communicated to us regardless of gender.”
