Naye-e Sin is a musical setting of an ancient Navajo text by the same name. Being a text that was usually sung or chanted during times of war, the subject matter is bellicose and sanguinary in nature. The music depicts the primal pathos of the text, and a ghostly, warring aesthetic pervades this work. It combines dramatic eurhythmic movement with singing. An instructional a dvd of these movements is available from the publisher, order S-295DVD. A full recording is available on CD-09.
This piece was the winner of the coveted Ives Award.
