Description

This Kyrie is the opening movement of the a cappella Missa brevis in G written as a concert Mass setting in 1988 for the choir Museum Musicum.  Miskiis’ Kyrie invites a very melodic approach, with clarity of imitations and phrasing that the composer describes as “free and delicate, but sometimes impulsive” as indicated by score markings.  Adherence to tempo and dynamics with their indicated changes is encouraged.  Harmonically, the language of the Kyrie is tonal and lush; care is needed to balance vertical structures so that the 2nds, 6ths or 7ths are not lost.
