Description

Amy Cheney Beach (1867-1944) remains an interesting anomaly: an American Victorian woman who achieved an international reputation as both pianist and composer.  Although she signed her personal letters as Amy Cheney Beach, she identified herself throughout an extended career as Mrs. H.H.A. Beach, a designation that bibliographers are busily expunging with considerable self-conscious energy.
