Urok is written for youth and women’s choruses who are looking for meaningful, challenging, and rewarding 20th century literature to rehearse and perform. This is an extremely well-written piece which, although it employs modern choral techniques, is solidly tonal and rhythmically grounded. The non-traditional notation may be somewhat puzzling at first, but after the instructions are understood, it is a clear and most appropriate way of communicating the desired effect.
The piece is recorded on CD-04: One World Many Voices, Volume 2. Percussion parts are played by choir members. A translation and pronunciation guide is provided. A pronunciation CD is available.
