Luna Liberiana (the Liberian Moon) is a traditional song of Costa Rica that celebrates the full moon in Liberia, the capital and largest city of the Guanacaste province and hometown of the song’s composer, Jesús Bonilla Chavarría. Though Luna Liberiana was composed in 1938 when Chavarría was only 26, it was not recorded until 1958 by the singer Manuel Chamorro. It quickly became one of the most popular folk songs of Costa Rica, breaking regional barriers and achieving national status.  t has been referred to as the country's unofficial national anthem.
