In her translation of the original Chinese poem, Chien Chia-Ming informs us that the bridge half in fog is the Golden Gate Bridge; that the "island goddess" is the Statue of Liberty; and that the "ancient castles" are the legendary castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau in Germany.  The swan is Zeus of Greek mythology and the meteoric shower is that of the Leonid shower which scattered its dust on earth on November 17, 1998 in an unusual "fireball" storm.

A pronunciation CD is available from the publisher.  A complete recording of the piece is found on CD-05.
