The text of Apamuy Shungo is in Quichua, one of the indigenous languages spoken in Ecuador.  The piece itself is a Yumbo, one of the fundamental rhythmic styles found in the Andean music of Ecuador which employs  a characteristic driving rhythm.  the piece should be accompanied by a bombo (a low-pitched Andean drum).  See also S-130 Wawaki.
