Die Rose stand im Tau is the first of the seven short canonic Ritornelle of Opus 65.  It was written in 1847, the same year that Robert Schumann (1810-1856) became the conductor of the Dresden Liedertafel ("male singing society").

This edition is based on the 1886 publication of Schumann's Werke, Serie XI, which was edited by Clara Schumann.  The original indicates that it was composed for five solo voices, and that the baritone part could be doubled if desired.
