This beautiful melody is a traditional folksong from the Kyonggi Province ("Kyonggi-Do") in the northwest corner of South Korea.  In the poem, the swaying, wavering willow tree becomes a symbol of disloyalty and unrelability, while the river, with its steadfast self-sufficiency, symbolizes loyalty and devotion.
