The Noels Anciens are a form of popular literature, spiritual songs of the Nativity which date back to the medieval Mystery plays and still come to life at Christmas time in Quebec and France.  They depict, often in picturesque detail and without the least concern for authenticity, the customs of the times and the various events connected with the Nativity story.
